The Lansing Mall Theater opened in 1970 as a free-standing, contemporary building on Mall Drive near the original west end of the mall. Throughout its life, it remained a single screen theater with a good-sized auditorium and was fairly typical of cimemas built near suburban shopping malls in the late 1960s-1970s before multiplexes became commonplace. If memory serves, it had a waterfall curtain. I remember seeing “Jaws” and “E.T.” there.
It was demolished in 1986 when the mall was expanded at both its north and west points.
This theater should not be confused with the current Lansing Mall 6, which was originally built by General Cinema and opened as the Lansing Mall West prior to the closing of the Lansing Mall Theater. The Lansing Mall 6 is on the other side of Mall Drive to the west of where the Lansing Mall Theater was located.
