The Uptown opened in 1938. It was remodeled ten years later by architect John M. Gabriel. Any additional information on this theater would be appreciated.

June 1938 – The Uptown Theater opens.

Uptown Theater opened on the 15th. The seating capacity was 428 on lower floor – the upper floor had 100 seats for blacks.

I don’t know where that article obtained the seat count from. Maybe the balcony was closed in the 1940s and the seat count was reduced. If the rest of the information is reliable, it tells us that this theater opened on June 15th, had a small balcony, and was a segregated theater in 1938.
