This was one of three movie theaters that were within blocks of each other in Clairton, specifically as people there called it Clairton Hill (the other two being the Colonial and Capitol, both have been demolished). There were two more theatres in Clairton, one in the Wilson district, the other in the Blair Heights district, both of these long gone.
The State showed first run movies in it’s heyday and by the 70’s showed mostly "blaxpotation" films. Closed sometimes in the late 70’s. The front part of the building (the lobby) was eventually turned into a coffee shop/diner and the marquee removed. The coffee shop has been closed many years and the building sits empty.
The theater seats still remain, along with the screen. The State had a downstairs with pinball machines. If you went by there now, you would never know that a movie theater still sits inside.
