Frisina Theater

Opened as the Frisnia Theatre on December 20, 1946, it was designed by architect Cletis R. Foley.

The theatre was later re-named Cinema and is now twinned, with the second screen located in the former balcony. By 2014 it was renamed Taylorville Cinema.

AMC closed the Cinema on July 28th, 2011. The next day would mark the first day Taylorville has had no movie screen since the mid 1920’s.

Typo in the description/name history – the correct spelling is ‘Frisina’. For a picture from the early ‘70s, when it was still a store, go to: http://gis.hpa.state.il.us/hargis/ and enter 'Frisina Building’ in the search bar. At least there’s a good excuse for the current entry, since the store destroyed the old one.
