J.A. & E.J. Kraus opened the Nauvoo Theatre in 1950 with seating listed at that time of 500.
Thanks. Interesting. Bizarre. But at least the auditorium remains intact.
rvb, the restaurant is actually in the lobby of the former Nauvoo Theatre and the auditorium has remained intact directly behind what used to be the lobby. Why the restaurant owner maintained the auditorium I can’t answer. It was a single screen theatre with the auditorium directly to the rear of the theatre. The entrance to the restaurant used to be the entrance to the theatre. The windows now in the front of the restaurant were added after the theatre closed and the lobby became the restaurant. It has been a couple years since I have been to Nauvoo but from photos it looks like not much has changed.
Valid point, but a long time in coming (December 2008). No real action on this listing. Would you have the answer to my September 2009 question that I posed to Bryan?
This theatre was never run by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saint. It was a main stream motion picture theatre. The LDS Temple had nothing to do with the theatre. You should keep your personal feelings about the Temple to yourself and not express them on Ct.

Very interesting film. But, what I don’t understand is why is the theatre still intact and yet it’s listed as a restaurant. From the photo posted by Lost Memory it appears that the auditorium is to the left of the restaurant. Were there multiple auditoriums and the one now houses the restaurant? The posting says single screen. Bryan, could you clarify this please.
Here is a 1982 photo.
I meant Nauvoo Temple but now that you think about it, Temple of Doom may be acceptable.
Temple of Doom.
The Temple of what?
Something tells me that this was a theatre run by the Temple.
That was an interesting video. I can see why those old machines were always bursting into flames. I can also remember some not so good projectionists that could not “seamlessly segue” from reel to reel. Sometimes there was a jump and some scratchy film when the new reel started.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0iScIfqfCGk This theatre it seems is pretty much intact. This video on youtube.com titled “carbon arc projectors” shows a brief view of the auditorium and then of the old projectors being run.
A recent photo of the former Nauvoo Theatre can be seen here.
