When the Independence Mall was closed and extensively remodeled in the mid-1990’s, and the original Eric Twin closed and was torn down, the Destinta Theater was opened in May 1999, this time being incorporated into the design of the open-air mall, unlike the stand-alone Eric Twin.
When it originally opened, they offered a card which would be punched for each ticket purchased; after the twelfth ticket, the holder would receive a ticket for a free movie. This was eventually phased out.
The decor is at least in the auditoriums, very modern, with bright blues and purples and blacks predominant and exhibited via modern shapes hanging on the walls. Sound was very good as of 2003 – in fact, it often had the best audio of many theatres in the Trenton/Philadelphia area.
It was closed on December 21, 2012. It was taken over by Regal in November 2015 and was renovared. It had a ‘soft’ reopening on February 11, 2017.
