The Collingwood has closed its doors again, unfortunately. The theatre closed on April 30 due to a dispute between its management and the theatre’s landlord.

Collingwood Theatre set to close next week

I’ve checked for showtimes at different movie listing sites and there is nothing for the Collingwood at any of them. Likewise, the Collingwood website has not been updated since its closure last April, so on that account, I would guess that it has not reopened and is still closed.

I think it was opened in 1928 as The Carleton

When I moved to Vancouver in 1975, the Haida played second-run Hollywood movies; later on (1980s), it ran hardcore porn pictures edited for Canadian consumption. Not sure when it went to Indian fare.

It became Raja Cinema sometime in the mid-2000s if I’m not mistaken. I get the feeling it sat empty for a few years between the porno days and the opening of the Raja.
