The Lackawanna Theatre opened on February 9, 1940.

Shea’s Lackawanna, newest addition to the Shea theater circuit, located at 160 Ridge Road in the Steel City, will open with a gala premiere tonight. Doors will open at 8 o'clock and the program will start at 8:45.

Shea’s Lackawanna is equipped with the latest RCA Magic Voice of the Screen sound system. It has a capacity of approximately 1,000 with an arrangement of seats designed for comfort and easy accessibility. The latest air-conditioning and ventilating system also has been installed.

Robert Case, well known in theatrical circles for twenty years, having been associated with RKO, Fox and Loew theaters, will be manager of the theater. The opening program will be Destry Rides Again, with Marlene Dietrich and James Stewart; and Laugh It Off, with Johnny Downs. The inaugural program will continue through Monday night.
