This West Side porn theatre and store lasted over a decade screening videos before and after the Guiliani crackdown on porn venues.

There may have not been a 35mm projector ever involved in this operation which played mostly gay product.

I have an advertisement dated November 24, 1980 when it was known as the Westworld All Male Entertainment Center. Open 24 hours. Featuring 4 XXX all male films (new films begin every Monday). A quote from HIM magazine states ‘It’s about time Greenwich Village had it’s own Gay Neighborhood Theatre’.

If you pan to the right in the streetview, there is a white, 1-story building on the corner of West Street and Clarkson Street. I presume this is the site of the old Westworld cinema. If you zoom in on the signage, there is a white sign on the facade of the building for an establishment called Westworld, advertising what appears to be a 24-hour peep-show (“25 cent” signs flank the name of the business on either side of the sign) noting “1000’s of new adult videos” as well as “magazines & more.” Not sure how old the sign is or how old the street view is, but I wonder if the old Westworld carries on with books, mags and private video booths?

The Original Entrance Was Where The Big Black Sign Is In This Picture. The Corner Was All Boarded. It Was Once An Old Bar…With The Dark Old Bar & Bar Room Accessable From The “Cinema”.I Loved Going There In The 80’s! “FREE JOCK STRAPS TO ALL THOSE WHO CHECK THEIR CLOTHES”! Had A Draw FULL!!

LeonNorman1814 = It was on the corner of West St and Clarkson. I spent countless hours there in the late 80’s. LOVED playing there, and lived to tell about it. Really miss Westworld – especially the dark “room” off the back hallway. Anyone interested in sharing stories or memories, email me at !

LeonNorman1814… Try posting it to the Strand Theatre page. The Orleans was carved out of the backstage area of the old Strand, while the main house was twinned to become the RKO Cinerama I and II around the corner on Broadway. Would love to see that pic.
