The former Lyric Thetare in Msida, appears to have been opened in the 1930’s and had closed by 1960.

It was a large Art Deco style cinema with a full stage, and a single balcony. Of the people I spoke to no-one could remember it having stage use.

After closure a false floor was inserted from towards the front of the balcony through the stage. At the rear the steppings survive intact, as does the projection suite, and above the proscenium is a splendid mural painted in 1951, indicating that the Lyric was refurbished not long before closure.
