The 6-screen Cannon Cinema opened on 20th December 1990. It was a project of the Cineplex Odeon group and its opening caused the closure of the historic Granada Cinema (by then re-named Cannon). It was taken over by the Virgin Group and re-named Virgin in July 1995.

It was re-branded Cineworld in 2005. Seating capacities in the screens range from 336, down to 191.
