The 13-screen Virgin multiplex cinemas opened on 3rd April 1998 and are located off Bristol Road South in the district of Rubery, Birmingham. In 2004 it was taken over by UGC, followed shortly afterwards in 2005 by Cineworld.

Empire Cinemas took over in late-2006 and it was re-named Empire Cinema. Seating capacities in the screens range from 523, down to 82.

When this cinema first opened it was the only multiplex to have all screens THX certified in the UK. Sadly when UGC took over the Virgin group, they did not bother with THX anymore.
