The Oxford Hippodrome Theatre opened around 1913. Externally it is a fairly plain brick building and has a plaque in the centre, with the name ‘The Oxford Hippodrome’ in stone. It had a mixed programme of films on the screen and variety acts on the stage. In later years it was operated by the Nottingham based Eskay circuit. It and closed as the Hippodrome Cinema in December 1991. The building has been home to Tonkers Night Club since the early-1990’s.
