The Cinema Teatro Sistina was contructed between 1942 and 1949 and designed by noted architect Marcello Piacentini. It opened in 1949 with the film “Le Mura di Malapaga”. Located close to the Piazza Barberini which contains the (now 5-screen) Cinema Barberini.
Today it is in use as a live theatre, known as the Il Sistina, occasionally staging English-language (American and off-Broadway) productions of musical revues. Seating is provided for 832 in the orchestra, 349 in the balcony and 16 in two box slips
