Operated by Stewart-Everett thru 1986, Carmike thru closing in 2000.
Stewart & Everett opened The Independence Mall Cinema 1-2-3 on or about April 4, 1980. Phil Pierce was the City Manager in Wilmington for “S & E” at the time. This information comes from Stewart & Everett’s “Showmanship” newsletter dated April 4, 1980 (page 5).
I noticed CARMIKE is good at closing Theatres.
This theater closed and was demolished in 2000 to make way for the Dillard’s wing in the mall. I miss this theater. I saw so many movies there as a kid.

i have linked a newspaper article above dated December 12, 1978 that describes the plans for the construction of this triplex. ENJOY!
Thaks for the article, in the case of the mall owners wanting space to expand for Dillards maybe Carmike had no word in the theatre closing.
Carmike has never impressed me from the theatres I have seen up close. But,I know it is a different time we live in.
Located behind Sears in the back of the shopping center off Independence Boulevard at Oleander Drive.
