A Robert-Morton organ was installed in the Galax Theater in 1922.
Thanks for the info KenRoe.
Maybe the Strand in Birmingham, AL will be added to CT soon on it’s own.
However another Strand just got listed twice, so it may take a while for the powers that be to update & sort it all out. There’s plenty of Strand’s to go around.
David Zornig; The Strand Theatre, 1913-15 2nd Avenue North, Birmingham, AL is listed with 799 seats in the 1950 edition of Film Daily Yearbook. In the 1943 edition of F.D.Y. it is listed with 950 seats and operated by Paramount Pictures Inc. through their subsidiary Wilby-Kincey. In 1941 it is listed with 800 seats,
The Strand Theatre, Birmingham, AL does not have a listing on Cinema Treasures as I write this.
Any idea what the other theatre is pictured one door away in photo4?
The one showing the Nelson Eddy film?
It has “STR” at the start of it’s marquee name.
I checked all the Strand’s listed on CT, and then theatres in Birmingham AL. But only the Ritz comes close to a Birmingham address on 2nd Avenue. Thanks.
Here are some photos of the Galax Theater from 1920 to 1939.
