The Market Hall was designed by Haddon Brothers of Hereford and opened on 30th November 1877. It was initially used for concerts and social events. In 1911 it was converted into the Kino Picture House, with a seating capacity of 500. By 1944, it had been re-named Castle Cinema and was listed with 323 seats and an 18 feet wide proscenium.

The building was converted into the Wyeside Arts Centre, which opened on 5th December 1978. Originally opened as a single auditorium seating 250 (which today seats 200). Refurbished in 2001, a second auditorium has been added with seating for 150.
