Opened in 1911, the Lamoni Coliseum originally was a live playhouse and concert hall. In 1925, the theater was acquired by Graceland University.
The theater has served primarily as a movie house since that time, and also is used by the university for classes and other events. In the late 1950s, the name of the theater was changed to the Collegian, but was later returned to its original name. There is a no-alcohol dance club in the theater’s basement, called Choices, which opened in 1985.
The Coliseum was remodeled in the early 1990s, including new restrooms, new projectors, concession area, and box office.
