The Alamo Theater dates back to 1911 when it opened as a 150 seat nickelodeon theatre. It was enlarged to 229 seats in 1916 and in 1921 had become an African American theatre. The Alamo Theater closed in around 1965.

Three different addresses are given for the Alamo Theater. The other two are 1223 7th Street NW, and 1293 7th Street NW. Comments included with this 1937 photo indicate that the address was actually 1203 7th Street NW.
