The Dixieland Theatre opened in 1921 catering to an African American audience, the owner at the time was John Miller. Both live and motion pictures were featured at the theatre. After failing it was operated by various parties.

It was later leased to Maude Gibben for the Charleston Philharmonic Society but also failed, It ran under other parties again for some time and then five years after being closed it was purchased by Basil Kerr in 1931 and was remodeled and reopened as the Palace. It closed in 1957 and was demolished in 1968
