Lincoln Theatre

The Lincoln Theatre opened in February of 1920. The theatre was built to cater to an African American audience. It featured live shows and movies. The theatre was owned by the Bijou Amusement Co. of Nashville, TN.

The theatre closed in the early-1970’s and was demolished on November 9, 1989. It was demolished following heavy damage from Hurricane Hugo. The site is now occupied by a U-Haul Rental Service.

The Lincoln Theatre during the height of the civil rights movement was the ONLY theatre in Charleston that catered to the African-American community,at the time of segregation.
