Cinemark opened the Movies 5 theater at the Midway Mall in 1987 then closed and abandoned it at the opening of Movies 10 in 2004.
The theatre sat empty and unused for many years. It was gutted and refurbished, with new seats, carpet and projection equipment, and was reopened as a bargain cinema on November 16, 2012 with “The Dark Knight Rises”. Initially the Midway Theaters is using only two screens which each seat 110. Plans are to eventually open the other three screens.
