1907 post card view of the interior of the Ridgway Opera House / STRAND Theatre, at 209 Main Street, in Ridgway, PA

Originally the Ridgway Opera House, the Strand Theatre was operating prior to 1941. It was still operating as a movie theatre in 1982. After closing it became a Service Star Store (Feed Store) and after being demolished there is a convenience store where the theatre once stood. It was located on the corner of Main Street and N. Broad Street.

I have some adverts from 1923. It appears to have been a movie house along with vaudeville. I was doing my research starting in ‘23, so I’m not sure when it was opened. Also looks like a lot more vaudeville than movies.

I recently met a gal who travels through Ridgeway PA from NJ on a monthly basis and she told me there is a commemorative plaque where the Strand once stood on the corner of Main and N. Broad. Very nice.

I called the Ridgway Chamber of Commerce and have learned that the town spells its name as Ridgway without the letter E.

This theatre is marked as closed and it should be marked as demolished.

Architect Victor A. Rigaumont applied for a copyright of his design for a remodeling of the Strand Theatre in Ridgway in 1944. The project included a new roof and ceiling.
