The Billings Gazette announced plans for the Shiloh 14 on June 8, 2008. At that date Carmike Cinemas said that the Carmike 7 on Overland Avenue would be shut down when Shiloh 14 opened because it would be too expensive to shift to stadium seating. The Wynnsong 10 stadium at Rimrock Mall would remain open. They previously closed the Cine 7 on Broadwater Avenue on May 5, 2007.
Dale Hurst, speaking for Carmike, said that that they are an industry leader in new technologies, and those will be part of the Billings expansion. He also noted that the chain is the largest chain to go totally digital and that they have over 400 theatres capable of 3-D and they try to put one in each complex.
“We’re the largest theater chain to go totally digital” Because digital projectors cost about $100,000, or three times that of 35mm, the chain has contracted that part of the business to Cinedigm. Cinedigm owns and maintains the digital projectors for Carmike and “Instead of shipping 35mm films in large steel canisters, digital films are increasingly delivered from the sky.†“We first started getting our movies off of hard drives,” Hurst continued, “Now we’re moving into satellite delivery, and most of our theaters have a dish.â€
Steve Corning of Shiloh Crossing LLC, Shiloh Crossing’s developer, said that in the Gazette that Carmike Cinemas would be a mousetrap for the center. It was said that the multiplex at Shiloh Road and King Ave West “will generate up to 600,000 to 7000,000 visits a year at a minimum.â€
When The Shiloh 14 opened on the start of the Memorial Day weekend it meant “Terminator Salvation†(on two Screens) and “Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian†on three screens. The largest auditorium has 357 seats and three screens are capable of 3-D. Other features included six indoor ticketing stations and a 10-register concession stand.
David Passman, pres.& c.e.o. of Carmike announced in a press release to the Billings Gazette (July 8, 2011) that the Shiloh 14 had been selected to be among a small group of theaters to introduce “BigD format” A 30,000 lumen Christie Brilliant 3D flash projector will project a better than HD picture on a wall to wall screen that is 78ft wide and more than 3 storeys high. The movies can be either 2D or 3D with the latest in 7.1 surround sound. “To further enhance the experience, the theater is also adding a digital audio system with surround sound technology supported by quad-amplified, 4-way speakers and six 21-inch subwoofers. The new theater will also have leather high-back rocking seats in a stadium seating configuration.”
