Part of General Cinema’s aggressive South Florida expansion in the late-1980’s, the Deerfield Mall opened in 1989 and followed the chain’s standard blueprint of the time: predominantly red-and-black-decor, with stereo surround sound in most auditoriums.

Closed suddenly in 2000 along with GCC’s other Florida locations, the theater sat idle for several years until Sunrise Cinemas assumed management. In 2010, it is operated by Frank Theatres.

Extensive lobby remodeling, upgraded seating, and expanded food/beverage menus were introduced toward the end of Sunrise Cinemas' management.
