One of the smaller cinemas was the Marathon Cinema. It was originally a skating rink, known as the Marathon Rink, which was built in 1909. In February 1911, a Cinematograph Licence was applied for, and granted. Dual use as a rink and cinema continued for a while, and it became a full time cinema in 1913. It was still going strong in 1921, but later closed, possibly never being equipped for talkies.

The building with ‘The Marathon’ name in stone still on the side eventually became part of the premises that were occupied by Gravesons of Carnforth, however Gravesons of Carnforth is no longer there and there is no sign of number 66.
