Sun Pictures is now 100 years old(9/12/16)!! It is the first outdoor theatre in the World to turn 100 years old!! There is a free movie screening(at 6.45pm, Australian Western Standard Time) of the movie “Elf” for current and past owners and the public!! Unknown if any other celebrations are planned?

There is a book about Sun Pictures called “Reflections of The Sun” by Maria Mann released in 1991(out of print now i think?). There is also a novel set at Sun Pictures, called “Nights in the sun” by Colin Bowles.

The official theatricial premiere of the Australian film Bran Nue Dae was held at Sun Pictures on 8/12/2009. The World premiere was held at the Melbourne International Film Festival(closing night) on 8/8/2009. The original building(general store) that is now Sun Pictures opened in 1903. Correction – the television series was called ‘Two in the top end ’ not “two men across the top end”.
