The Hayes Theatre opened in the late-1930’s. It had gone from listings by 1950. The owner was listed as Howard T. Morgan. The article didn’t give a closing date but stated the building was still standing at printing but the usage was unknown.

Information on this theatre obtained from the Arkansas Historical magazine.

The 1955 Film Daily Yearbook lists a Hays (their spelling, not mine) Theater on Crown Street with 412 seats. It’s not listed in 1950. Maybe it closed and opened again during those years.

LM, I looked all over the map for a Crown St. in Hughes and couldn’t fint one. The Historical magazine lists it the way I listed it above. When you map it on bing it shows a small yellow building at this address on S. Cowan which could have been the theatre. The article listed it as the Hayes though.

The Film Daily probably gave the wrong street name. But I think it’s the same theater as the one on this page which means that the Hayes was still operating after 1950.
