The Shannon Theater was built in 1946 by Charles Clifton Bryant and Jessie Lee Stanley Bryant. It was named for their daughter, Peggy Shannon. The theater was originally named the Bryant Theater when it opened on Monday, September 16, 1946. The opening night movie was titled "The Princess and the Pirates" in Technicolor starring Bob Hope and Virginia Mayo.
On Friday, May 9, 1947 an advertisement was run in the local paper announcing the name change to the Shannon Theater. The marquee was erected during that week.
