1948 Grande

The Grande Theatre opened in 1948 with seating listed at 697. It was operated by Leon Theatres of Dallas and was a Spanish language movie theatre in 1952-1953. The theatre for some time was operated by H.S. Theatres. The Grande Theatre closed in 1969 and has since been converted to retail.

Numerous sources in the old Brownsville Herald place the Grande Theatre at 1114 E. Washington. The Alamo Clothing Co., as the signage on building reads, lists their address as 1114 E. Washington. Also listed on the Sanborn Maps of 1949 (See photo section).

Architect Jack Corgan designed the Grande Theatre. His ad is in the photo section.
