The 700 seat Strand Theatre opened in 1934. It was operated by Minnesota Amusement Co. The street was originally N. North Avenue and later changed to Downtown Plaza. By 1943 it was operated by Paramount Pictures Inc. through their subsidiary John Friedl.
The theatre closed in 1955 and was later demolished. The building on the site of the former theatre is now Bank Midwest.
