I often went to this cinema in the late 50’s/early 60’s. It was known locally as the “flea-pit”, which I thought unfair, perhaps because the nearby Gaumont was more luxuriously appointed.

I just found out today that my Grandfather designed this building. Pity it’s no longer there. I’d love to see it.

My grandad james carter started as a rewind boy at the queens then made it upto chief when he was 19 as mossy harris sacked the chief at the time for losing his temper at a reel which fell off a projector..mossy harris had a Right hand man called arthur radcliffe who used to do my all the hiring and firing my grandad told me there used to be a gaslamp by the back door by the stalls which used to flicker all the titme then when it converted to electric it would still flicker but nobody knew why ..my grandad rekoned it was the cleaner who died while working there..also mossy harris also had the palace bridport for a short time before he died…ken are you jacro son?
