Strand Theatre

Viewing: Photo | Street View

The Strand Theatre opened in 1915 and was operated by Consolidated Theatres. Seating was listed at 400. Butterfield Theatres took over operations in 1930 until closing.

The Strand Theatre closed in 1940 and has since been demolished. The Devos Place Convention and Performance Center is now where the Strand Theatre once stood. Any further information on the Strand would be appreciated.

The trade journal The Moving Picture World reported in its issue of August 21, 1915, that the Strand Theatre on Monroe Avenue in Grand Rapids was scheduled to open on Labor Day.

Granted that you cannot see much of the Strand Theatre in this picture but the 1922 city directory confirms it was next door to H.M. Brock & Co.
