Opened on 11 Oct. 1949 with a car capacity listed at 426 according to an article in the Evening Independent. The opening attraction was William Elliott in “The Last Bandit”

Floyd took control of this drive-in, along with the Mustang and 28th Street Drive-ins in 1971. The Sky-Vue closed in 1973, with mounting costs associated with bringing the theater up to code being cited as a reason for closure.

Floyd Theatres must have been a lot like Martin Theatres in Georgia, they pretty much had locations all over the Peach State.

It was closed and razed Dec 1977. It was showing X Rated movies at the end. Check out the pictures.

Oh boy, I’m gonna ruffle feathers here. The Sky Vue closed because the land was sold by Floyd Theatres to U. S. Homes with the intention of building a high rise condo. A moratorium was passed by South Pasadena forbidding this. The theatre was re-opened by Bill Eisenhardt and was in operation for many more months. It never played x-rated movies, in fact, we re-opened with a new, green print of Forbidden Planet. I was a relief projectionist there for years and was the full time projectionist from re-opening to the end. I have many pictures and even video.

So the newspaper story was wrong about the X rated movies. So Budd when did it close? Upload the pictures and video.

This doesn’t claify when it closed or what it was showing when it closed but a very favorable write up in the St. Petersburg Times on Tuesday Apr. 22, 1975.link At least we know it wass’t showing X rated in 1975.
