Look at this marquee; yeah, remember when they used to run DOUBLE FEATURES, AND a short subject and, believe it or not, a CARTOON! For those who have grown up in the time of the multiplex and streaming, theatres use to show those “short subjects” that you see winning awards at the Oscars. Theatres actually showed them, you know…on their movie screens! The double bill you see playing here at the Meadows included the first run “A” tile feature (on this bill it is BEYOND THE FOREST which is the top “A” title starring A-list stars Bette Davis and Joseph Cotten) and a second, “B” title (here HOUSE ACROSS THE STREET starring lesser actors Wayne Morris and Janice Paige). Might I mention, the idea that you would go to a movie theatre and be subjected to TV ads after you paid money for a ticket was unheard of.
