The It Theatre was opened on August 15, 1946 by Gidney Talley Enterprises. It was the second Quonset Hut style theatre to open in the United States, and was the first of this style of movie theatre to be built for all year operation.

The first ever Quonset Hut style theatre was the Gaiety Theatre, Inlet, NY, which was opened a week prior to the It Theatre and operated as a seasonal theatre.
