The Stanhope Hall was built in 1909 as a multi-purpose entertainement building. In 1911, it was re-named Winter Gardens.

In 1945, it was extended, and re-named Astor Theatre, being used for amateur stage productions, which closed in 2007.

In February 2010, it re-opened as the Astor Community Theatre, and is equipped with digital projection, to enable films to be screened. Seating is on a level floor, and is not fixed.
