The Elite Theatre was one of several theatres in Augusta, Georgia that showed silent movies with the admission of a nickle or a dime. It was gone like so many other screens showing the latest William S. Hart western way before talking pictures.
Interesting that it was owned by Miller and Walker. This might be part of the Miller family that later opened the 1,600 seat Miller Theatre on Broad Street in Augusta. The Elite Theatre was located off Broad Street on 214 8th Street.

Wasnt this theatre located a bout a block from the Imperial?
Somewhere in that area.I haven’t been Downtown since I found this Theatre.I bet you guys had quite a few Silent Movie Houses that you probably never heard about. We have a Writer for the paper Don Rhodes and he using old papers and other historical documents found these theatres.I wrote him and told him about CT,but never heard back,For all I know he could using a name like you,so I wouldn’t know if he was on CT.
Anyone have more info or old photos?
Still searching, afraid some of these old theatres are just gone,Bob.
It is just impossible to track down any more info, even the old local paper had no ad of what i could find. What i have above is most likely it.
Mike, I ran into the same problem here in Tampa. I was shocked to find no movie ads were published in the Tampa Tribune at all until just prior to 1920 as I recall. That would make it next to impossible to research local theatres that ran silent films. Who knows how many of these silent theatres we really had?
yes, luckly a local writer had time to do the reserch like you did so many years ago on the RITZ in Tampa…had he not, i had no idea these theatres were here..
