Originally opened as the Palace Theatre in 1915, it was renamed Mayfair Theatre in 1936, and by 1951 and was part of the Kerridge Odeon chain.

It was re-opened on 10th November 1965 following a remodeled and renamed Odeon.

This was one of many in the Kerridge Odeon chain of screens throughout the country offering high quality projection and multitrack stereo sound.

The Odeon was demolished in 1990

Darn; another one of those archives that generates only temporary links. To see the picture, go here:
View link and enter “Odeon Palmerston” in the search box. Then when the thumbnails appear, click on the thumbnail to to expand the color picture.

I loved seeing the Roadshow movies here in the 1960’s and my first experience 70mm with a full 6 track soundtrack, very impressive and a big screen as well.

I think this link will work to view the only photo I can find on this theatre:

Mark – your links have the same problem I noted above; that digital library only generates short-term links, and now both are dead.

Thanks CWalczak, indeed there is an issue with those links. They are trying to make money by selling the images :(
