The Family Theatre opened in 1911 on what was then Main Street in Tupper Lake. Their advertisements stated "Good movies shown one day after they appear at the Star Theatre in Malone". After the villages of Tupper Lake and Faust merged this Main Street became Park Avenue as there was also a Main Street in Faust.
The Family Theatre closed in 1914 when the owner’s new theatre, the Palace Theatre (currently the State Theatre) opened next door.
