Opened as the Caprice Grand on May 19, 1999, by Caprice Entertainment, Galaxy Theatres took over operations less than a year later. At that time, it was renamed the Galaxy at Rutherford Mall.
By 2005, it was under the Cineplex Odeon banner and was renamed the Galaxy Cinemas Nanaimo. Seating is listed at 1,880 with auditorium 1, 2 and 5 listed as being THX certified. The smallest auditorium seats 185 and the largest 325.
Today, the theater features first run attractions.
