George Cohen opened this theater as a movie house to supplement his other theatrical holding in Newburgh, Cohen’s Opera House, which evolved into the Ritz Theater after about 1930.

The Star Theater was located on Lander Street in Newburgh, just north of Broadway and was also known as the New Palatine Theatre back in around 1913/1914 when it was listed in the American Motion Picture Directory at this address, together with the Star Theatre at 16 Lander Street.

Actually, the Star Theater was established by George Cohen even before he built Cohen’s Opera House on Broadway in 1912-1913.
