This United Artists was a typical mall cinema, which opened on December 30, 1977. The biggest thing to ever happen there was on August 1, 1990 when two ski-masked bandits, who apparently waited in theater until closing time, held it up. The Orange County Register said they knocked two employees down, blindfolded and tied them up. But the bad guys did something worse! Adding insult to injury, they took one of the employees 1968 Mustang and drove away in the darkness with $3,200 in cash. The employees, after freeing themselves, called the police. It is not known if the felons were ever apprehended or if the 68 Mustang was ever returned to its owner. The theater closed sometime in April of 2000, way past its expiration date.
Glen Ivy Day Spa, located between Sears and Nordstrom, now occupies the space.

Capacity (total): 1128 Capacity (main auditorium): 332 Ironically, older and smaller Brea Mall (4) outlasted the much nicer and newer Brea Marketplace (8) nearby. This, in spite of the fact that there was talk of litigation in the late 80s after the mall buried the exterior mall entry nearest this fourplex under a mountain of new parking and development. The exterior mall entry was still accessible, of course, but no longer as visible. This was a double-whammy for the UA Mall (and its managers' snack bar %) because it was around the same time (1988) that the UA Marketplace opened just across the way. The only advantage the four retained over the eight was its ability to play weekday matinees, which were not allowed at the Marketplace because of limited parking and/or lease restrictions.
