The Danaos 1-2 movie theaters are 100 meters from Metro Line 3 Panormou station. In 1972 the Georgiopoulos brothers opened the original 600 seat Danaos cinema, which has continued in the ownership of the same family. As of 1990, Sotiris Georgiopoulos and his son Ilias have administered the theater. In 1997 one of the largest screens in Athens was installed along with T.H.X. certified digital sound.

In 1998, the Danaos 2, a stadium seated 110 seat auditorium was added. One of the longest runs was of the movie “The Mourning Rock” which was shown for 17 consecutive weeks.

The Danaos 1 & 2 are the hosts of the Athens International Film Festival along with the now closed Attikon Cinema and Appolon Cinema which were destroyed in the February 2012 riots.
