When Edwards Theatres Irvine Spectrum 21 was celebrating its first anniversary, the Edwards Metro Point 12 opened on November 27, 1996. Other Edwards Theater’s that were added to their portfolio in that year were Edwards Westpark 8 and Park Place 10 in Irvine. MCG Architects designed the theatre and the Metro Point Center, just across the street from South Coast Plaza.
The Orange County Register announced in September of 2001 that Edwards had turned over control of its 669 screens to Philip Anschutz and his investor group. Since 2002 the Metro Point Stadium 12 has been part of Regal Entertainment Group but it still retains the Edwards name.

The theatre/center is actually spelled “Pointe” with an “E” on the end.
