Delux Theatre

The Delux Theatre was opened in early-1949, and operated at least into the 1960’s. After closing as a theatre, the Streamline Modern building served as the Sveden House restaurant and then a bingo hall, but it has now been converted into the Stoney Creek Church.

The building is recognizable as a former theatre by its small stage house, and some of the original interior decor has survived. The facade has been remodeled and the marquee removed. Vintage photos show the unconventional spelling “Delux” on the marquee.

The February 26, 1949, issue of Boxoffice reported that F. R. Spangler, operator of the Capitol Theatre at Utica, had recently opened the new Delux Theatre. Spangler intended to continue operating the Capitol as well.
