R.P. Theatre

The R.P. Theatre opened on 3rd Avenue in downtown Prince George in September 1979. This single-screen venue started out playing a mix of mainstream Hollywood fare and foreign-language movies, then began showing second-run Hollywood double bills and then switched to an eclectic mix of Hollywood movies, porn double bills and weekend matinees of foreign films.

The R.P. Theatre closed sometime later in the 1980’s and has since been converted to office space.

The September 14, 1979 issue of the Prince George Citizen (seen here) has a display ad for the R.P. Theatre’s opening day on that day on page 70.

Another ad for the R.P. from the October 26, 1979 edition of the Citizen (seen here, on page 43) shows a drawing of the theatre building at the top of the ad, matching the building seen in the Google street view above.

Either it closed down in 1982 or the Citizen placed a ban on ads for adult movies.
