Barbizon

Located in the south of the city centre, in what today is one of the Chinese sections of Paris. The Cinema des Familles was opened in 1911 with 350 seats. It was a single balcony cinema, with a large lobby. It was later enlarged and re-named Barbizon.

After running successfully as a neighbourhood cinema, it was twinned in the early-1970’s and began screening Kung Fu movies. It was closed in the late-1980’s and remained dark for over 20 years, despite many attempts to re-open.

In 2003, an association organised performances in the building in order to give it a new life, but it was a short lived venture. The Barbizon was demolished by early-2013.
