In 1937 the Artarmon Picture Theatre Company commissioned architects Crick & Furse to prepare upgrade plans which were submitted to the Chief Secretary in November that year. No work proceeded, however in October 1938 revised plans were submitted and renovations commenced in June 1939. A bank loan of £2,200 was obtained for the improvements. After a three day closure “Gunga Din” opened the re-named Sun Theatre on Saturday 22nd July. New capacity was Stalls 553 Gallery 250 Total seats 803.
