CASABLANCA was the first picture we showed at the grand opening. We ran it for at least a couple of weeks then LOVE AND PAIN AND THE WHOLE DAMN THING, BLACK BEAUTY, BALLAD OF CABLE HOGUE and CRIES AND WHISPERS among others. Funny thing about the Ingmar Bergman picture was that there was a bus load of blue haired ladies dropped off for a matinee one day and after about twenty minutes came out complaining: ‘Where is Ingrid Bergman? She doesn’t seem to be in this movie.’ They all received refunds. The original interior of The Flick was a gorgeous eye-catching classic movie motif with Betty Boop wallpaper and celluloid prints all over the walls. The porn days were later days I left Greenville in ‘74. Back then many of the 'challenged’ pictures went to Mauldin. But it seems appropriate since when the newspaper ran the adds a lot of the time the LI ink bled and looked like a U between the F and C.

THE THEATRE FIRST OPENED AS AN ART HOUSE SHOWING CLASSIC MOVIES. IT EVENTUALLY BECAME AN ADULT THEATRE. THE BUILDING AT THE TIME WAS OWNED BY A POLITICAL/LEGAL VIP FROM THE AREA.

AN AMUSEMENT COMPANY TOOK IT OVER AND TURNED IT INTO A X HOUSE. IT RAN AS AN ADULT THEATRE UNTIL IT CLOSED DUE TO VIDEO. ONE FORMER EMPLOYEE GOT MAD AT THE BUSINESS OWNER AND DECIDED TO OPEN HIS OWN X THEATRE. IT WAS QUICKLY SHUT DOWN. AH, THE GOOD OLD DAYS OF EXHIBITION. IT HAD A PIZZA INN RESTAURANT LOCATED IN THE SAME BUILDING, WITH SEPERATE ENTRANCES OF COURSE.

IN DEFENSE OF THE THEATRE, THIS WAS DURING THE TACKY ADVERTISING DAYS RELATED TO THE PORN INDUSTRY. IT NEVER HAD A MARQUEE. ONLY A SIGN WITH THE NAME AND A ONE SHEET OUTSIDE AND A SMALL AD IN THE THEATRE SECTION OF THE GREENVILL NEWS. YOU ACTUALLY HAD TO BE LOOKING FOR THIS THEATRE TO FIND IT.
